Welcoming Kwasha: Red River’s New VISTA Coordinator

At Red River Community Corps, our work is powered by people who care deeply about community impact. We’re excited to welcome Kwasha as our new VISTA Coordinator, bringing fresh energy, nonprofit experience and a commitment to sustainable anti-poverty work across Oklahoma.

The AmeriCorps VISTA program empowers communities and helps alleviate poverty through service. Rather than providing direct services alone, VISTA members focus on building long-term solutions by supporting efforts like fundraising, grant writing, recruitment, system development and communications.

An Oklahoma City native, Kwasha is a proud graduate of Harding Charter Preparatory High School and the University of Central Oklahoma, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise and fitness management. While her academic background centers on health and wellness, her professional path has been grounded in nonprofit service and community partnership.

Kwasha has spent several years working in the nonprofit sector, supporting programs and partnerships designed to strengthen long-term community impact. Her experience has given her a strong understanding of how collaboration and capacity-building can create meaningful, lasting changes in Oklahoma.

Supporting Service That Lasts

In her new role as VISTA Coordinator, Kwasha is most excited about supporting VISTA members and host sites as they work toward effective, sustainable anti-poverty solutions.

“I’m excited to be part of an organization that values collaboration and long-term community impact,” she shared.

Kwasha sees her role as a supporter and a connector, ensuring VISTA members are well prepared while helping host sites align their service efforts with real community needs. From recruiting and onboarding strong VISTA members to strengthening program quality, her work will help expand Red River Community Corps’ reach and build capacity across the communities it serves.

Looking Ahead at Red River

In her first few months, Kwasha’s top priorities include recruitment and streamlining processes. She sees strong opportunities for Red River Community Corps to continue building leadership through programs like VISTA and to be trusted with expanding into new initiatives in the future.

Beyond the Office

Outside of work, Kwasha enjoys staying active through fitness and wellness, exploring new local food spots and fueling up with great coffee. Her favorite restaurant in Oklahoma City is MAHT and her go-to coffee stop is Culture Coffee.

We’re excited to have Kwasha on the Red River Community Corps team and look forward to the impact she’ll make supporting VISTA members, host sites and communities across Oklahoma. Please join us in welcoming her to the team!
